REFINED LINSEED OIL
CAS Number:
8001-26-1
Linseed oil is obtained from the seed of flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) a plant grown mainly in Canada and increasingly in Eastern Europe. The oil content in the seed is 35-45%.
The pressed oil has a yellow to brown colour with a characteristic odour.
The refined oil is light yellow, bright and almost odourless. Its high content of linolenic fatty acid makes it a siccative oil that after its polymerization gives a high level of resistance to the final product.
The crude linseed oil is used in technical formulations such as paints, varnishes, resins… It is an excellent moisturising and dispersing agent for paints based on alkyd resins. It is also used as a raw material for coatings in the construction industry.
Refined linseed oil has a superior dispersing capacity and is also used in technical formulations for the manufacturer of paints and inks.
