Evening Primrose oil is obtained from the seeds of evening primrose (Oenothera biennis L.), a shrub that grows in large parts of Europe, Mexico and East Asia.
The oil content in the seed is up to 30%. Pressed unrefined oil is golden yellow and smells very smooth. The refined oil is light yellow, bright and almost odourless. It is characterized by its high content of gamma-linolenic acid, between 9 and 14%. Over 90% of its composition are unsaturated fatty acids. This acid contributes to the metabolism of prostaglandins that influence the contraction of smooth muscle tissue, vasodilators and regulate body temperature.
It is applied in preventive treatments of neurodermatitis, manifested in the appearance of eczema on the skin. It also has anti-inflammatory and healing properties. It is one of the best oils for skin anti-ageing and rejuvenating the skin. Mainly used in facials and massages.
